The French Navy – Black Seas: speed, precision, and naval rebirth
The French Navy has a long and fluctuating history, marked by both setbacks and strong periods of rebuilding. Following heavy defeats during the Seven Years’ War, the French fleet reached a low point in the mid-18th century. However, under Louis XV and later Louis XVI, France undertook a significant naval reconstruction programme, producing ships widely regarded for their high-quality design, speed, and sailing performance.
In Black Seas, these historical traits are reflected in a fleet built around agility and efficiency. French ships benefit from national special rules that emphasize flexibility and manoeuvrability. They may purchase the Sturdy and Streamlined upgrades at a reduced cost, enhancing both resilience and sailing performance. Additionally, French gunnery doctrine focuses on disabling and capturing enemy vessels rather than outright destruction, allowing them to ignore penalties when targeting enemy structures with high shots.
Despite the disruptions of the French Revolution, which severely impacted naval leadership and experienced crews, the French Navy retains a strong identity on the tabletop: fast, adaptable vessels capable of responding quickly to changing battle conditions. This makes the faction particularly appealing to players who value mobility, precision, and tactical flexibility.
The fleet box includes a wide selection of ships in plastic and resin, along with detailed components that allow players to recreate some of the most iconic vessels of the French Navy.
