Flexible metallic paints are designed to maintain adhesion and durability even when the painted surface is bent, flexed, or moved. Unlike standard paints, which may crack or flake under stress, these formulations include special additives that enhance flexibility. The Green Stuff World formula is free from latex and vinyl, reducing the risk of allergic reactions and making it suitable for a wide range of materials such as EVA foam, leather, fabric, latex, and 3D prints used in cosplay and modelling.
As with all metallic paints, the visual result is significantly enhanced when applied over a dark base, ideally black. This improves metallic depth, intensifies brightness, and increases overall contrast. For best results, a flexible black primer is recommended, especially when aiming for a smooth, uniform, and high-impact metallic finish. Proper surface preparation is essential, including cleaning, light sanding if necessary, and applying a suitable base coat to ensure strong adhesion.
Application should always be done in very thin layers, especially the first coat. The initial layer should be light to ensure proper adhesion, followed by subsequent layers applied while the previous one is still slightly “tacky”. Thick applications or excessive build-up can compromise adhesion and create surface defects. Full curing is essential, with a recommended drying time of at least 24 hours, or longer depending on thickness. Airbrush or spray application helps achieve thin, even coats and reduces the risk of peeling. Dilution with water or a dedicated acrylic thinner is recommended for easier application.
The satin finish provides a balanced effect between matte and gloss, offering a subtle reflectivity that enhances details without exaggeration. It is especially suitable for flexible pieces as it resists dirt, handles frequent manipulation, and is easy to clean. Note: these paints are flexible, not elastic, and may crack if overstretched. They are not recommended on smooth or non-porous surfaces (glass, ceramic, glossy plastic, bare metal, concrete, stone, wood, silicone, or waxed surfaces) without proper priming.
