Throughout her service, HMS Royal Sovereign took part in several key naval actions of the era. She notably served during the Glorious First of June and played a crucial role in Admiral Cornwallis’ famous retreat in 1795, where her massive broadside helped deter a superior French fleet. Her most famous moment came at the Battle of Trafalgar, where she acted as Admiral Collingwood’s flagship, leading the lee column and being the first ship to break the Franco-Spanish line. Despite suffering heavy damage, including the loss of her masts, she continued to deliver devastating firepower throughout the engagement.
