L’Orient – an iconic flagship for Black Seas
L’Orient is one of the most renowned vessels of the French Navy during the late 18th century. An Océan-class ship designed by naval engineer Jacques-Noël Sané, it belongs to the powerful three-deck 118-gun ships of the line. Launched in 1791 under the name Dauphin Royal, it was quickly renamed during a period of political upheaval, before becoming L’Orient, the name under which it is historically remembered. It notably served as flagship during the Egyptian campaign and played a central role in the French fleet at Aboukir.
In Black Seas, L’Orient is represented as an exceptionally powerful 1st Rate flagship, designed to serve as the centerpiece of a French fleet. Its firepower and durability make it a dominant presence on the tabletop, capable of shaping the outcome of engagements. Its special rules reflect its historical legacy, including enhanced combat performance against British vessels and a heightened risk of catastrophic explosion if set ablaze. Fleet composition limits ensure that deploying such a vessel remains a significant strategic choice.
This kit provides all components required to assemble L’Orient in detailed form. It includes a resin hull, metal mast components, printed sails, a ship card, and game markers. Additional elements such as rigging materials, including a bobbin, acetate ratlines, and a flag sheet, are also included. Everything required to bring this legendary ship to life on the tabletop in your games of Black Seas is provided in the box.
