American War of Independence – Hessian Infantry
During the American War of Independence, Britain’s relatively small army was stretched across multiple global commitments. To reinforce its forces in the colonies, King George III turned to the German principalities, recruiting large numbers of troops. These contingents, collectively known as “Hessians,” came from various states but were grouped under this common designation.
Hessian troops were known for their discipline and battlefield effectiveness. Well drilled and reliable, they could deliver strong musket volleys and hold formation under pressure before closing in combat. Their specialised units, including Jägers (light infantry) and grenadiers, provided valuable tactical flexibility, particularly in skirmishing, reconnaissance and assault roles alongside British forces.
This boxed set allows players to build a full Hessian infantry unit for Black Powder. The models include multiple assembly options to represent musketeers, fusiliers or grenadiers, supported by a complete command group. The included background booklet provides historical context and full-colour flags to enhance the authenticity and visual appeal of your force.
