Rome's Legions of the Republic (II)

The set includes 36 legionaries with several possible configurations. They can be assembled as Hastati or Principes armed with the pilum, or as Triarii carrying the longer spear. This gives the collection the flexibility to represent different elements of the Republican legion within a single box.

The command contingent consists of 3 Centurions and 3 standard bearers, with additional components allowing you to create 3 musicians. These models provide distinctive figures within the formation and add further variety to the ranks.

The remaining 18 light infantry can be adapted to different periods. They may be assembled as Velites, used after 211 BC, or as Leves, an earlier form of lightly equipped skirmisher armed with javelins and without shield or helmet. This makes it possible to tailor the force to the particular period or campaign you wish to represent.

The miniatures are suited to Republican Roman armies fighting against Pyrrhus of Epirus, Carthage during the First and Second Punic Wars, and the Macedonian kings Philip V and Perseus. They can also represent Roman forces campaigning against Gauls, Spanish, Numidians, Italian peoples and Seleucid armies.
