Not every hoplite marched beneath the colours of a single Greek city-state. Mercenary warriors could serve different powers and fight across the changing conflicts of the Classical period, from the wars against Persia to the Peloponnesian War and the campaigns of Philip and Alexander of Macedon. This set provides a versatile collection of armoured Greek warriors suited to representing mercenary forces and hoplites from a variety of city-states.
The box includes 48 highly detailed miniatures, featuring crisp and clearly defined sculpting. Rather than forcing every warrior into an identical appearance, the extensive selection of components makes it possible to build a formation with considerable visual variety.
There are 8 head variants, together with several crest options that can be mixed across the unit. Weapon choices include thrusting arms, arms carrying spears at rest and sword arms. The assembly options can be expanded further by rotating a thrusting arm through 90 degrees, creating another resting-spear pose from the same component.
Each sprue contains 8 miniatures, with four supplied with shield arms and four without. This arrangement gives you additional freedom when assembling models that need a more distinctive role within the formation. Musicians, officers and other special characters can therefore be given different poses rather than simply repeating the standard infantry configuration.
The set also includes different sword arms and scabbard options, adding another layer of variation to the finished miniatures. These details are particularly useful for a mercenary force, where a less uniform visual identity can reinforce the character of warriors gathered from different backgrounds. With 48 models and a broad selection of interchangeable components, the box offers substantial scope for creating a distinctive Greek hoplite formation.
