This paint represents a color variant listed in the 1938 edition of the L.Dv. 521/1 regulation color chart.
Officially designated as the standard color for Luftwaffe aircraft cockpits and crew compartments from mid-1941, it had actually been used for this purpose since mid-1940 and even before the war on certain aircraft. For instance, as early as 1937, it was specified for the crew compartments of the Do 17 E and F.
Starting in the summer of 1944, it was officially recognized as the standard interior surface color for Luftwaffe aircraft.
It pairs well with the "eggplant gray" used on the upper surfaces of some modern Russian attack aircraft, such as the Su-25SM, Su-30SM, Su-34, and Su-35.
