Us Marine Corps War Dog Teams
Unleash the power of war dogs!
The US Marine Corps introduced war dog platoons in 1943. Their first mission took place during the Bougainville operation in November of that year. They later supported US Marine forces in Guam and Peleliu in 1944, and Iwo Jima and Okinawa in 1945. Most of the dogs used were Doberman Pinschers, with the remainder being German Shepherds. These dogs were trained as either scout dogs or messenger dogs.
Scout dogs alerted their handlers to the presence of enemy positions, ambushes, and hidden snipers, proving highly effective in this role. They could detect enemy machine gun nests or snipers before troops came under fire. Other dogs were trained to carry messages between Marine units, often outperforming human runners, although they too faced enemy fire and injuries in the line of duty.
This set contains two metal handler figures and two metal dog figures with plastic bases. Models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
