A typical Chinese infantry squad consisted of 10 men led by a corporal. Submachine guns were uncommon, though some squads were issued Soviet PPSh-41s. The squad’s primary firepower came from the locally produced ZB vz. 26 light machine gun, originally of Czechoslovak design. The remaining riflemen were armed with the Hanyang 88 bolt-action rifle, a Chinese variant of the German Gewehr 88.
This squad reflects the adaptability and ruggedness of Chinese infantry units during key conflicts such as the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Korean War.
