Before applying texture, knead your material thoroughly to ensure a smooth consistency. To prepare the surface evenly, using a smooth roller beforehand is recommended. Depending on the material, lightly moistening the roller can help prevent sticking. Then, roll slowly and apply even pressure to create a consistent texture. Polymer clays like Fimo or Super Sculpey are especially compatible, as they remain soft until baked. These can be applied directly onto MDF bases, which are oven-safe at 150°C for 15 minutes, making them a great option for sculpted terrain or display bases.

Epoxy putties such as Green Stuff and Milliput can also be used with this roller. Green Stuff, being sticky, benefits from a damp roller or the application of talcum powder or modeling vaseline. Milliput should be used with minimal moisture and can be mixed with children’s modeling clay in a 50/50 ratio to improve workability. After sculpting, clean the roller thoroughly with water and a brush pen to maintain the detail of the engraved pattern. These rollers are not toys and should only be used by children under adult supervision.
