Before use, thoroughly mix the clay or putty until it reaches the ideal consistency. To prepare the surface, using a smooth roller beforehand is recommended. Depending on the material, lightly moistening the roller may help prevent sticking. Roll slowly with consistent pressure to achieve an even texture. Polymer clays like Fimo or Super Sculpey work particularly well, as they remain malleable until baked. They can be applied directly onto MDF bases, which are safe for baking at 150°C for 15 minutes without burning.

Epoxy putties do not require baking and can be applied directly to plastic or metal surfaces. Green Stuff, known for its stickiness, should be used with a wet roller or combined with talcum powder or modeling vaseline. Milliput is also suitable but works best with minimal moisture. If it’s too sticky, kneading it longer or mixing it with children's modeling clay (up to 50%) can help. After use, clean the roller with water and a brush pen to maintain the engraved pattern quality. These tools should not be used by children without adult supervision.
