Before applying texture, knead the putty or clay thoroughly and level the surface with a smooth roller to ensure a uniform base. Depending on the material, you may need to slightly moisten the roller to prevent sticking. Roll slowly with consistent pressure to achieve an even imprint. This roller works well with polymer clays like Fimo or Super Sculpey, which remain soft until baked. For textured bases, you can apply the clay directly onto MDF boards, which withstand baking at 150°C for 15 minutes without burning and release a scent similar to toasted bread.

Epoxy putties such as Green Stuff or Milliput are also compatible, though each requires specific handling. Green Stuff, being particularly sticky, benefits from a bit of water, talcum powder, or modeling vaseline to reduce adhesion. Milliput should not be overly moistened and can be softened by mixing it with children’s modeling clay in a 50/50 ratio. After use, clean the roller thoroughly with water and a brush pen to preserve the fine engraved details. This tool should only be used under adult supervision when handled by minors.
