German forces during the Second World War were equipped with a wide range of support weapons, most notably their machine guns and mortars. The iconic MG 34 and MG 42, when mounted on the Lafette tripod, could operate as highly effective sustained-fire platforms. Their exceptional rate of fire and stable firing position allowed them to fulfil roles similar to much heavier weapons used by other armies, delivering intense suppression across wide areas. They were particularly effective for covering approach routes, defending key positions, or setting up deadly ambushes.

Providing indirect fire support, the standard 8cm German mortar was a simple, rugged, and highly reliable weapon. Capable of delivering accurate explosive fire, it could harass and disrupt enemy infantry even at relatively short indirect ranges. This combination of direct and indirect fire support made German heavy weapons teams a cornerstone of battlefield strategy, capable of both anchoring defensive positions and supporting offensive pushes.

In Bolt Action, this boxed set allows you to build a complete and versatile Heavy Weapons Platoon. It includes everything needed to assemble medium mortar and MMG teams, along with an officer to command them. A Panzerschreck team is also included, providing a vital anti-tank capability against enemy armour. The crew can represent late-war Heer troops or be painted as Waffen-SS depending on your force composition. In addition, the crew sprue is compatible with many other German kits in the range, offering extensive kitbashing and customisation options.
