At the centre of the set are two market stalls, surrounded by tables, stools, food, cookware and everyday goods. Barrels and sacks add further storage and clutter, while beehives, poultry baskets and other details help create the kind of busy environment where traders, travellers and warriors might gather.

Historical authenticity was a key consideration throughout the design process. The scenery draws on archaeological discoveries, museum research and historical reenactment, with references from sites such as Hedeby, Dublin and Oseberg helping to establish the appearance of objects associated with Viking Age life.

The individual pieces reflect practical objects of the period, including sturdy feast tables, folding market stalls, clay ovens, pottery, baskets and grain sacks. Even the poultry baskets are based on historical examples and are designed to hold a hand-painted chicken miniature.

Created with Pillage in mind, the set is equally at home in historical or fantasy wargames. Use the components together to build a complete marketplace or spread them across your board to add smaller touches of everyday life wherever your games take place.
