As the Union expanded into the Pacific and Atlantic, it needed considerable air power to support its fleet operations. The Enterprise class is a formidable warship and the largest vessel on the Union naval register. Once dubbed the Great Experiment, there's no doubting the success of these ships. Powered by three gigantic paddlewheels, this powerful vessel retains some of the manoeuvrability of the Union's smaller ships, while still being able to maintain an impressive speed for its size. The recent addition of launch cables allows faster deployment of Corsairs, of which she carries ten squadrons. Enterprise-class heavy carriers also serve as mobile headquarters for admirals and other senior military and civilian figures when the fleet is operating away from home waters.

Alongside the front line ships of the Union Navy, the Enterprise is rarely seen without a small flotilla of support ships. The missile cruiser Washington serves to augment the long-range firepower of the battle fleet as well as providing additional cover against enemy aircraft.Armed with Kettering-type cruise missiles, Washington-class ships often use observation rotors and scouts in fighter squadrons to ensure that the deadly payload reaches its target.

The Roanoke attack carriers provide additional air support to the already prodigious number of squadrons carried by the Enterprise. These cruisers use powerful electromagnetic catapults to quickly launch their Corsair attack fighters into the fray, making the Roanoke carrier an invaluable vessel in the Union fleet. The class was named after the Union naval base on Roanoke Island, destroyed in 1862 during the Ore War.A rarer sight is the new Discovery class bow cruisers. After sufficient development by The Pipeworks to be deployed in the Union fleet, the Discovery class is equipped with the bow technologies of Edwina Houston and Nikola Tesla. These deadly, state-of-the-art weapons can cut through the hulls of the most powerful enemy battleships in an incandescent burst.

These imposing simulacra are designed by the brilliant theoretical engineers at The Pipeworks, and are the largest automata in the Union Army.Like the smaller automata, over time their adaptive calculations develop quirks that give the Veteran Automata distinctive personalities.
