Before use, knead the clay or putty until it reaches a smooth and workable consistency. Spread it out evenly on a flat surface using a regular roller, then apply the textured roller with even pressure across the material. Depending on the type of substance used—polymer clay, epoxy putty, etc.—you may need to moisten the roller slightly to prevent sticking. Once the texture is applied, any excess material can be removed after the compound is cured. This tool works well with most popular materials including Super Sculpey, Fimo, Green Stuff, and Milliput.

When using polymer clay, texture can be applied directly on MDF bases, which can be safely baked together at 150°C for 15 minutes. Epoxy putties do not require baking, but may need special handling: Green Stuff benefits from a bit of water, talcum powder, or modeling vaseline to reduce stickiness, while Milliput can be blended with children's modeling clay in a 1:1 ratio for better pliability. Always clean the roller thoroughly with water and a soft brush after use to preserve detail. Not suitable for use by unsupervised children.
