Francis Mendoza – Flying Dutchman puts an experimental heavy cruiser under the command of one of the Colonial forces’ most destructive officers. Captain Francis Mendoza has destroyed more enemy tonnage than any other Colonial officer of his rank, earning his reputation in particular during the First Battle of Olympus.
During that engagement, Mendoza’s former ship, the Crimson Heart, sank nine capital ships before eventually being disabled. His relentless focus on destroying enemy vessels has become both his defining characteristic and a limitation to his career, but the Admiralty has now given him command of a vessel seemingly designed around exactly that philosophy.
The Flying Dutchman is a one-of-a-kind heavy cruiser built for short, high-intensity missions. Additional engines give it exceptional speed for a vessel of its tonnage, allowing it to operate with a level of mobility that would be unusual for such a large ship.
Its weapons follow the same aggressive design approach. The Flying Dutchman carries a formidable offensive armament, but this comes at the cost of reduced ammunition reserves and extremely limited operational range. That restriction may prevent the design from seeing widespread adoption, yet it makes the ship a highly specialised instrument of destruction — and Mendoza is regarded as the ideal captain to command such a ship killer.
Model supplied unpainted and unassembled. The kit requires cleaning and assembly.
