Before use, properly prepare your modeling compound according to the manufacturer's instructions. For optimal results, level the surface with a smooth roller, then apply the textured roller slowly and evenly to achieve consistent patterns. Depending on the material, slightly moistening the roller may help prevent sticking. Polymer clays like Fimo and Super Sculpey are particularly well-suited, as they are easy to work with and only harden when baked. For base creation, MDF wood is highly recommended as it can be baked safely without burning.

When working with epoxy putties like Green Stuff, lightly wetting the roller or using talcum powder or modeling-grade petroleum jelly helps reduce stickiness. Milliput is also compatible and can be mixed with regular children's modeling clay in a 50/50 ratio for easier handling. After use, clean the roller thoroughly with a brush tool and water to preserve the texture details. As with all modeling tools, these rollers should not be used by minors without adult supervision.
